9‘Shoeless’ Joe Jackson’s Baseball Bat – $577.610
Nicknamed ‘Shoeless Joe’, Joseph Jefferson Jackson (b. July 16, 1887 – d. December 5, 1951) was an American outfielder who played in the Major League Baseball.
And he did a very good job on the field with the help of his lucky baseball bat, Black Betsy.
In 2001, the baseball bat was auctioned on eBay and finally sold for $577.610, breaking the record for the highest sold baseball bat in history.
Considered one of baseball’s most fanciful artifacts, Black Betsy was created in 1903 by a local fan of the South Carolina mill team, Charlie Fergeson. Back then, Shoeless Joe was only 15 years old.
Made out of hickory tree, the baseball bat measures 36 inches in length and has a weight of 48 ounces.
And it’s not called Black Betsy for nothing. Knowing that Shoeless Joe liked blacked bat, Charlie Fergerson darkened this one with tobacco juice.
