Rich people can have any car they want, obviously, but some choose to help the polar bears as well as travel in style, so they go for one of the most expensive electric cars on the market.
Some of these luxury cars are purely electric and some are hybrids, but they’re all super expensive and very luxurious. Many luxury car manufacturers are pouring money into developing greener luxury vehicles in an effort to provide more sustainable travel for their loyal customers. And then, of course, you have Tesla, who specialise in bringing electric cars from Palo Alto, California to the rest of the world.
So these are the most expensive electric cars in the world – which would you choose?
15. 2014 Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid – $64,000
This tough-looking Volkswagen SUV has a supercharged 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine, paired with an electric motor. Combine, they provide 373 bhp.
Unlike many of the other cars in this most expensive electric cars list, the Touareg is powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery, a less expensive battery than the lithium-ion that many luxury hybrids and electric cars use, because it takes longer to charge.
One downside to this vehicle is that the petrol and electric engines are always combined, so you can’t use one in favour of the other – a feature that some of the more expensive and sophisticated models prioritise. The Touareg is more of an entry-level luxury electric car.
