First of all, let’s get one thing straight! Base jumping is not the same with skydiving. Base jumping it’s not only dangerous, but also illegal in some parts of the world.
Then what is this sport? ‘Base’ stands for any rock cliff that is over 2.000 feet tall, used as platform by the jumpers.
What makes this sport so extreme and dangerous is the fact that jumping off cliffs that are almost 2.000 feet tall means that you have only a few seconds before you hit the ground.
So, you must have some skills to deploy your parachute in time. Extreme enough?
All you need is a special parachute, having a larger pilot chute than the regular ones. These parachutes cost between $1.200 and $1.500 and the helmets and the special jumpsuits cost an extra $500.
