2. Ferrari 335 Sport Scaglietti ($35,700,000)
Earlier this year, at the Artcurial of Paris, France, this piece of beauty was displayed for auction. And the 1957 car went beyond its estimated price: a staggering $35.7 million.
Also known as Ferrari 335S, this Ferrari 335 Sport Scaglietti competed in the 1957 Mille Miglia grand prix. Perhaps you wonder why this model does not have MM on its name as other Ferrari cars that competed in this particular race. There was no official announcement, but I can guess that the infamous race is the reason behind it.
That day was a tragic day for motorsport. Alfonso de Portago drove this car for the race. From third position, he was running on a long straight when one of the tires exploded. The car slipped and crashed into a group of spectators. Eleven of them, including de Portago and his co-driver, were killed in the accident.
Despite the tragedy, the Ferrari 335 Sport is still a great car. It is powered by a 4.0-L V12 engine which was the most powerful by the time this car was manufactured in late 1950s.
