The most expensive Google acquisition is the Motorola Mobility which they acquired in 2012 for twelve and a half billion dollars. Everyone knows who the guys from Motorola Mobility are.
They even introduced the first mobile handset, all the way back in 1983 and became major contributors to the mobile technology that followed after.
The major reason Google acquired Motorola Mobility was to increase the success of their Android OS, as part of the overall mobile strategy developed by them.
Their desire to purchase Motorola was that big allowing them to pay a small fortune for it. For many it might come as a sock, but if you think about it, Google can afford anything, so a new purchase in the future might be in the plan.
