6. 44-caliber Smith -$360,000
Introduced around 1869, the .44 S&W American is an American center fire revolver cartridge. It was used in the Smith & Wesson Model 3, and as the standard United States Army sidearm.
Works with an outside lubricated bullet of the same diameter as the .44 S&M Russian, with a slightly greater case neck diameter and both black and smokeless powder loadings.
The pistol became available for sell around 1940 and it can also be hand loaded by shortening and reforming.
As an American black-powder revolver, this one as the rest of its series must only use black-powder loads, because modern powders will generate excessive pressures.
