10. Boeing CH-47 Chinook ($29 million)
First produced for United States Army, a heavy-lift transport helicopter Boeing CH-47 Chinook is currently used by more than 19 countries including United Kingdom, Japan, and Italy. The main functions of this helicopter are transporting troops, artilleries, supplies, ammunition, fuel or other battle-critical cargo.
The Chinook is also known as the most reliable transport helicopter in the world. It can accommodate 10,886 kg payload and has the capacity of transporting 33 passengers. And the tandem rotor configuration enables the Chinook to operate in all weather conditions, even in the harshest one.
The first Chinook was produced in 1962. To date, more than 1300 units of Chinook have been sold, each with at least $29 million price tag. Chinook is powered by two Honeywell T55-GA-714A turboshaft engines. It can travel up to 741 kilometers with 315 kph top speed.
The name Chinook was inspired by one of Native American tribes, the Chinook tribe. It is a tradition for U.S Army to name their helicopters after Native American tribes to honor them and to acknowledge their existence.
