2Shareef Dancer – Sold for: $40 million
Shareef Dancer was an American-bred thoroughbred and is currently the second most expensive horse ever sold.
Stabled in the Godolphin Stables of Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum in England, Shareef Dancer (1980-1999) was sired by Northern Dancer out of the mare Sweet Alliance by Sir Ivor.
In 1983, the horse was sold for $40 million, a record price for a stallion prospect.
The racehorse was entered into a race 5 times, winning 3 times and placing 2nd once. Among its impressive winnings are included the Irish Derby Stakes and the King Edward VII Stakes, both in 1983.
Also in 1983, Shareef Dancer, the damsire of Dubai Millenium, was declared as the U.K. Middle Distance Horse.
