We begin our top 10 list of the most expensive living American artists with Cady Noland, a postmodern conceptual sculptor and an internationally exhibited installation artist.
Born in 1956, Cady Noland set the record for the highest price ever paid for an artwork by a living woman for her 1989 ‘Oozewald’, sold at Sothebys for $6.6 million.
Daughter of the ‘Color Field’ painter Kenneth Noland (1924 – 2010), Noland’s work often explores what she calls ‘The American Nightmare’ or aspects of American culture she considers toxic, such as glamour, celebrity, violence and death.
