Sikorsky CH-53K – $65 million
Modern military aircraft carriers have a new rival on the market, the Sikorsky CH-53K, a helicopter who was designed to change the game for its contractors.
Like the site of the Sikorsky company says, this model is the world’s premier heavy lift helicopter all of its improvements being based on the testing did on the earlier models in the last half of the century.
The manufacturer managed to triple the lift capability of the version before the Sikorsky CH-53K making it the helicopter with the most passenger fitted in it.
So the helicopter can move around with a cruise speed of 170 knots, 40 passengers being also the fastest heavy carrier from its category.
Designed for the U.S Navy, this cargo aircraft has an improved wider cabin and new composite rotor blades.
The company who builds them, Sikorsky, has a 200 unit order for the US Marine Corps, while the testing for the CH-53K just started in 2011.
With a base price of 65 million dollars this aircraft made it to the number two position of the worlds most expensive helicopters, even if it is still in testing and trials.
