4Giuseppe Guarneri’s del Gesu Violin – $4 million
Besides Antonio Stradivari, Giuseppe Guarneri was another famous master luthier.
And in 2008, one of his creations, a 250-year-old ‘del Gesu’, was sold at Sotheby’s.
The violin, that was once owned by the court violinist of Tsar Alexander II, was bought for $4 million by Russian violinist and lawyer, Maxim Viktorov.
The ‘del Gesu’ was played by Viktorov for a small time, and later by Pinchas Zukerman on 2 concerts.
