5. Caron Poivre ($4,400 per fl. oz.)
How do you react when you smell too much pepper? You either sneeze, cough, or get watery eyes. Yet somehow, Michel Morsetti turned spicy pepper into this expensive fragrance.
Since it was launched in 1954, Caron Poivre has been one of the most unique scents available on the market. And to celebrate this fragrance’s anniversary, Caron created its limited edition in Monumental Limoges porcelain. There were only 300 made. Some of them are still available for €990 ($1,100) per one 7.5-ml bottle. This means Poivre is worth $4,400 per fluid ounce in this bottle.
Each piece of the Limoges porcelain casing was handmade over five hours of work. The black and gold box set, hand mounted, is a precious Chinese chest of drawers. And the case containing the bottle is a replica of a spice box.
What does an exclusive pepper smell like?
“Poivre is an explosive scent which, still today, is unique on the market. A spicy peppery top note resting on a particularly rich floral heart and woody base.”
