2. Chateau Margaux 1787 – $500,000
Another wine that was part of the wine collection of Thomas Jefferson is also the most expensive wine never to be sold.
Its price was set around $500,000 when it was firstly authenticated. It seems that the wine is part of President Thomas Jefferson’s personal wine collection.
However, the wine never got to be tasted by anybody. The bottle accidentally shattered in a Margaux Dinner by a waiter who knocked the bottle over and broke it.
Insurers paid out around $225,000, which is only half of what the wine was first priced.
