3Stay – $50 million
‘Stay’ opens with a car crash on Brooklyn Bridge, with Henry Letham, potrayed by Ryah Gosling, as the survivor of the crash.
A nice way to start a movie! With Ryan Gosling.
‘Stay’ is an American psychological thriller film, written by David Benioff and Marc Forster, representing intense relationships about love, death, reality and afterlife.
Starring Ryan Gosling, Naomi Watts, Bob Hoskins and Ewan McGregor, the 2005 film was a box office failure. I mean, a really, bad failure!
Grossing worldwide $8.342 million against a $50 million budget, ‘Stay’ didn’t come close to the budget. Not at all!
And based on the worldwide box office, you can tell how bad the movie was.
It received mostly negative reviews, holding 6.9 stars on IMDB, 27% on ‘Rotten Tomatoes’ and 41 out of 100 on ‘Metacritic’.
Robert Elbert of the ‘Chicago Sun-Times’ said : ‘The ending is an explanation, but not a solution. For a solution we have to think back through the whole film, and now the visual style becomes a guide. It is an illustration of the way the materials of life can be shaped for the purposes of the moment‘.
But there were others who praised the film, like Peter Travers of ‘Rolling Stone’, awarding it 3 our of 4 stars, declaring : ‘Some people find this twisty and twisted psychological thriller arty and pretentious. I find it arty and provocative.‘
Story line : ‘This movie focuses on the attempts of a psychiatrist to prevent one of his patients from committing suicide while trying to maintain his own grip on reality.‘
