3Damien Hirst ‘For the Love of God’ – Price: $75 million
Damien Hirst’s ‘For the Love of God’ is one of the costliest sculptures in the world, worth $75 million.
Created in 2007, this stunning sculpture measures 17.1 x 12.7 x 19.1 cm. It’s celestial.
Made from diamonds, platinum and human teeth, ‘For the Love of God’ features an 18th-century human skull embellished with 8.601 flawless diamonds.
On its forehead you can see a pear-shaped diamond known as the Skull Star Diamond.
It was reported on June 11, 2007, that singer George Michael and Kenny Goss were interesting in purchasing this amazing sculpture.
Art historian Rudi Fuchs, observed: ‘The skull is out of this world, celestial almost. It proclaims victory over decay. At the same time it represents death as something infinitely more relentless. Compared to the tearful sadness of a vanitas scene, the diamond skull is glory itself.‘
