7Bronze Figure Of A Tapir – $12 million
This awesome sculpture represents a rare Chinese figure of a tapir, which dates back to the 4th century.
The 2.500-year-old sculpture was on display for the first time on February 27, 2007, in London.
The tapir was a mammal that looks like a pig, and became extinct in China 10.000 years ago.
And this lovely, and expensive, sculpture, features a removable ring on its back, which was used to refill wine.
The bronze figurine was sold in 2007 to a private Chinese collector via Littleton & Hennessy Asian Art.
‘If this tapir could talk, what a story it would have to tell. It’s amazing to think that it has survived this long. It has lost some of its turquoise inlay but we can forgive that after 2.500 years.‘, said James Hennessy.
We know the Cycladic Reclining Female Figure looks funny, but when you see its price tag, you won’t be laughing anymore.
