11. Royal Kebab ($1,137)
Kebab or kabob is a variety Middle Eastern dish originally based on grilled meat. The word kebab comes from Persian for grilling. However, in contemporary American and British English, kebab is a common dish consisting skewed meat or seafood with vegetables.
Kebab is considered to have originated from Turkey. The name was first discovered in a Turk script of Kyssa-I Yusuf dates back to 1377. Its delicate taste brings kebab’s popularity to the world. Now in England, kebab is a popular late night snack for those returning home after a good night out.
To bring back the dignity of kebab, Chef Onder Sahan, the chef of Hazev restaurant in Canary Wharf, London, made a dubbed Royal Kebab. This kebab was made to mark the fourth Kebab Awards on March 2016. Chef Sahan claimed to use expensive, high quality ingredients only. Among them are fine Japanese Wagyu beef, fresh morel mushroom, milk-fed lamb, 25-year-old Italian vinegar, Turkish basil, French Chaumes cheese with courgette flowers, Jerusalem artichokes, and La Valle des Baux olive oil. And the price of this culinary master piece is £925 (or around $1,137).
Chef Sahan was very proud and happy with his kebab, because it was not just the world’s most expensive kebab but also authentic. And he said he would be happy to pay more than £1,000 to anyone who could make a better kebab.
