We Ranked 15 Most Expensive Street Foods in the World

9. Araneta’s Sushi ($1,978)

Not many people know that sushi is actually originated from Southeast Asia. In the past, people put fish in rice to ferment it so it would stay edible for some time. Then, sushi became famous and sold on food stall as a snack or quick bite to eat on the go.

Chef Angelito Araneta Jr. is commonly known as the Karat Chef for his signature of incorporating gold into his dish. This sushi is no exception. He made this six years ago. And it put him in Guinness Book of World Record.

There is no doubt, with $1,978 price tag, this sensational sushi became (and still is) the world’s most expensive sushi. So, what makes it so expensive?

Each of this five pieces nigiri sushi is wrapped in thin gold sheets. The garnish is no less outstanding. On top of each sushi is the top-class caviar, African diamond, and three Mikimoto pearls.

Unfortunately, this dish is not available at any restaurant. However, if you are craving for it somehow, you can request the Karat Chef to make one especially for you.
