8. 230 Fifth’s Hot Dog ($2,300)
Who does not know hot dog? This street food is very popular in United States and commonly associated with American culture and events, such as baseball.
Hot dog came from Germany and started its popularity in United States back in the 1860s. Being called hot dog, many people thought this street food contains dog meat. This accusation was quite reasonable for the common practice of eating dog meat back then in Germany.
Today, hot dog is very popular because it is fast, hot, delicious, and cheap. Until New York’s 230 Fifth restaurant released a $2,300 hot dog in July 2012. And it is definitely the most expensive hot dog in the world.
This extraordinary hot dog is 12-inch long, which is almost as long as a baseball bat. The meat is made of 60-day dry-aged wagyu enriched with black truffle. And the bread is toasted brioche bun, brushed with white truffle butter and slathered with organic W Ketchup. This special ketchup is seasoned with saffron and Mustarde de Charroux imported from France.
As if that is not good enough, the hot dog is complemented with caramelized onions, which have been cooked in Dom Perignon Champagne and 100-year-old balsamic vinegar. And for the final touch, gold leaves are sprinkled on top of it.
