7. Zoot ($78,000)
I bet this was not what you were expecting when you read the title. But this funny-looking suit is indeed one of the most expensive clothing ever sold. It was five years ago when a buyer bid $78,000 for this Zoot suit at Augusta Auctions, New York.
Karen Augusta, the representative from Augusta Auctions who was in charge of this event, did not even think it would go over $10,000. In fact, while she was still planning the auction, she set less than $1,000 price tag for this suit. Who would have thought?!
What makes this suit expensive? History.
This suit, along with other vintage Zoot suits, was a hit back in the World War II era. Somehow the high-waisted, wide-legged, and tight-cuffed clothing was so popular. Don’t forget to fetch a fedora hat and pointy shoes to top the unique look.
Although this piece is a little unconventional, you can wear it to your board meeting or a gala!
