The third most expensive game ever created was developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision (ATVI).
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the sixth title from the Call of Duty series. The game was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
Launched in the second half of 2009, the game had several upgrades from the previous installments such as new weapons and equipment.
Many considered the game as a first-person shooter game, but it requires the player to assume the role of several characters, changing perspectives as the story progresses.
The company that developed the game used the IW engine, which was specifically developed for the Call of Duty series. The development of that feature made possible the accommodation of larger worlds, detailed graphics, and effective rendering of characters.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 sold approx. 4.7 million units in the UK and the US in its first 24 hours since the release.
It had an estimated development cost of $40-50 million, $150 million for the market, and the total cost was of $200 million. With this amount, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is easily considered one of the most expensive video games ever produced.
