6. The Persian Gulf War: 102 billion
With costs estimated at $102 billion in today’s currency, The Persian Gulf War stands on number sixth on the list of the most expensive wars ever fought.
In 1990, Iraq under the command of Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. He demanded historical claims to Kuwait that was supposed to be part of Iraq had it not been for a British invention.
Panic was installed when Saddam began threatening Saudi Arabia, but the U.S. launched Operation Desert Shield which was designed to keep Hussein out of Saudi Arabia.
And then another operation was launched a little later, designed to free Kuwait and become one of the first wars to receive around the clock television coverage.
