Most Expensive Yahoo Acquisitions

4. Tumblr- $1.1 billion

Tumblr has 300 million monthly unique visitors and 120,000 sign-ups every day, with about 900 posts a second. But as much traffic as it generates, not all the content is ideal for advertisers.

Tumblr was bought by Yahoo in 2013 in its attempt to revitalize its image and become “cool and relevant” again.

Tumblr will help Yahoo to tap into the younger, active online user base at Tumblr.

Some Tumblr fans were concerned that Yahoo will bring up all the ads on the platform. However until this point, Yahoo kept Tumblr away from the ads.

Yahoo said that Tumblr will be independently operated as a separate business and that they will keep David Karp as CEO.

They promised Tumblr won’t change and as far as I am concerned it hasn’t.
