Stowe characteristics the character of Uncle Tom, a tolerant black slave around whom the stories of different characters rotate.

Uncle Tom’s Cabin was the top rated novel of the nineteenth century, and the second top of the line book of that century, after the Bible.

It sold in excess of 10,000 duplicates in the first week of production and in excess of 300,000 in its first year in the United States alone.
