3Ponte Vecchio Bridge, Italy
Located in Florence, Italy, Ponte Vecchio Bridge is a Medieval stone arch bridge over the Arno River and one of the most luxurious bridges in the world.
Noted for still having shops built along it (present tenants are jewelers, art dealers and souvenir sellers), the Ponte Vecchio spans the Arno River at its narrowest point, where it is believed that a bridge was first built in Roman times.
It first appeared in a document of 996 and, after being destroyed by a flood in 1117, it was reconstructed in stone but swept away again in 1333.
Rebuilt in 1345 by Taddeo Gaddi, the luxurious bridge consists of 3 segmental arches: the main arch (98 feet), and 2 side arches (89 feet each).
