What is not to like about these stunning landscapes?
Located in the Tohoku region of Japan, Yamagata is the capital city of Yamagata Prefecture and features a total area of 147 square miles.
That’s 147 square miles of trees all covered with beautiful snow.
Among the local events that take place here are included Hanagasa festival, Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, and the ‘Imoni-kai’ autumn tradition, which consists of taro potatoes and vegetables that are cooked in a large pot, at picnic spots.
Do you know for what else is Yamagata well known? We all know that Japan is famous for its wagyu beef, and #1 is definitely Kobe beef.
However, on #2 stands Yonezawa beef, from the Yamagata Prefecture. And Matsusaka beef ranked #3.
This location is also home to the Yamagata Zao Onsen Ski Resort, well known for ‘Juhyo’ (ice monsters).
