N9. Brink’s MAT Warehouse: The “Fiery” Robbery -$30 million
We couldn’t make a list with the most successful bank robberies in history without including the one from Brink’s MAT warehouse, now could we?
Happened on November 26, 1983 when six guys broke into the company’s bank facility at Heathrow Airport.
They managed to grab $30 million worth of diamonds, gold bullion and cash.
At the time, Anthony Black was the security guard at the facility, and helped pull off this robbery.
Their original plan involved just £3 million in cash they knew were under the lock and key, but that changed once they discovered an additional three tons of gold bullion and diamonds.
Several subsequent murders have been linked to the case, and while much of the gang involved has since been convicted, the gold has never been recovered.
