2. William Bradford Bishop, Jr.
Being a 80-year old man who committed crime in 1976, you would have thought that William Bradford Bishop, Jr. has been on FBI’s most wanted list the longest. But the truth is, he was named as top ten fugitives only two years ago.
Bishop’s crime was one of the most hideous murders in the U.S history. It all started when North Caroline state forest ranger was dispatched to a densely wooded swamp off North Carolina highway. Five burnt bodies were discovered along with a gas can, pitchfork, and a shovel. Unfortunately, there was no CSI‘s technology back then. So the identity of those bodies was unknown.
Then, Bishop’s neighbor reported to the police with a concern of not seeing the family for a week. The detective who checked Bishop’s house did not expect what he was about to see. He said it was the worst crimes scene he had ever seen. There were blood spattered everywhere, especially the children’s room where there were also marks on the ceiling as evidence of a sledge hammer being swung and hit the ceiling in the process.
Bishop’s car was found abandoned at an isolated campground in Tennessee. But his trace led to nothing. His fingerprints were all over the blood stains inside the house. It was enough to indict him on five counts of first-degree murder.
