2. Louis Vuitton (1854)
The runner-up in our list about the oldest fashion houses is Louis Vuitton!
Louis Vuitton was born in 1821 in Anchay in the Jura region in Eastern France. After both of his parents died, he left home at the age of 13 and started his 2-year journey to Paris, alone and on foot.
When he finally arrived in Paris in 1837, he was already 16 years old. Vuitton was taken on as the apprentice of Monsieur Marechal, a successful box-maker.
Shortly after he got married in 1854, he left Marechal’s shop and opened his own box-making and packing workshop in Paris. Four years later Vuitton introduced his revolutionary stackable rectangular shaped trunks to a market that only had rounded tops.
