The New Onean Electric Surfboards Allow You to Surf without Waves
This new Onean electric surfboard will allow you to surf without waves! Keep reading and I’ll explain.
How is that possible? Everyone knows that you need waves to surf, right? What is so special about this surfboard?
Well, first things first. Who developed the electric surfboards?
It was developed by Spanish watersports brand Onean and is a quite unique surfboard.
The company has launched two battery-powered boards that allow you to surf without any swell.
The Spanish brand was working on developing a design for the electric boards since 2013, and how has launched two models with the help of Basque Country engineering company Bizintek Innova.
The Carver model surfboard is shaped similarly to a traditional longboard, and is powered by a 440-Watt dual-core electric motor and an axial water pump.
The motor is controlled remotely using a hand-held device, which can increase and decrease power. The Carver is a similar shape to a traditional surfboard and is designed for serious surfers.
This is something unique that allows surfers to slalom across the water at speed without having to rely on waves for propulsion, with the battery providing up to 20 of fun at its highest speed.
Batteries are easily interchangeable, with a charging time of two hours.
The firm says on its website: ‘With the Carver you will immerse yourself into a completely new and unbelievable sense of freedom.
‘Tides and wind conditions dependencies remain to the past, now you have nothing to depend on but yourself.’
And then there is the Manta model, which more rectangular, and is powered by similar components. This model has been designed for more casual surfers, allowing for cruising along calmer water surfaces such as canals.
The board offers top speeds of seven to eight kilometers per hour, with more than two hours of continuous usage time from a single charge.
It’s stable and buoyant ‘for those wanting to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of taking long tours or excursions at low speed,’ according to the company.
Onean describes it as “the best choice for those wanting to cruise into unexplored areas”.
“Based in the Basque Country in Spain, the company is perfectly located in an area with broad industrial experience with a huge surfing culture,” Onean said in a statement.
The two models are now available for pre-order online, and a third model named Blade is also in development.
How much they cost?
The Carver model is priced at €3,450 (£2,430), while the Manta costs €3,650 (£2,571).
