See inside Pablo Escobar’s Tulum Mansion that is Now an Amazing Five-Star Hotel
Pablo Escobar’s Tulum mansion could be on your list of hotels if you ever go to Mexico.
Totally transformed by a famous art dealer this place now looks absolutely incredible.
The estate that once belonged to the infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar is now a luxury hotel full of items from the art dealer’s collection.
New York-based Lio Malca, who deals contemporary works, turned this place up-side-down and the result is pretty incredible.
Renovated and turned into a hotel, the property became inhabitable after Escobar abandoned it.
Located in the Mexican beach resort of Tulum, Casa Malca, belonged to the wealthiest-ever drug lord, who built and bought many estates across America.
Pablo Escobar, who died in 1993, has his life story as the basis for current Netflix series called Narcos. If you haven’t seen it yet, I advise you to do so, pronto.
Rediscovered in 2003 and returned to its original owner, the art dealer found the estate in 2012 and immediately acquired it.
Since then the estate became his personal project to overhaul the buildings and surrounding land into a five-star hotel.
He managed to get it open in 2015, but ever since, constantly adding more and more art to the estate.
How many rooms?
Back then it featured nine bedrooms, but now it boasts 24 rooms ready for guests.
The art, frequently rotated, so returning guests can enjoy different works, included paintings, sculptures.
Also included is a row of small two-storey buildings, recently built in the same architectural style, right along the beach. Each building has one guest suite per floor, which bring the hotel’s total to 35 rooms.
Full-height glass doors slide open directly onto the sand, while the tall rooms decorated with a stark palette similar to the main property, add a more classy effect.
What’s so special?
Other ground-floor rooms in the villa include a bar lined with graphic black-and-white wallpaper, a spiral staircase as well as a terrace bar.
Also on the property is a hidden underground steam room that lights up in different colors and exists right to the pool.
This hotel is one of the best in that area, because its location has become a trendy getaway destination recently.
