5. World Rally
The World Rally Championship, or WRC, has been going on since 1973. It is a series of racing events driven on surfaces ranging from gravel and tarmac to snow and ice.
Red Bull sponsors three driving teams in WRC. One of them is the three-consecutive-years world champion, Sebastian Ogier from Volkswagen Polo R team. Before him, another Red Bull sponsored driver, Sebastian Loeb, was the world champion for nine consecutive years.
The 1990 and 1992 WRC champion, Carlos Sainz, was also sponsored by Red Bull. Interesting fact, his son, Carlos Sainz Jr., is currently driving for one of Red Bull’s teams in Formula 1.
The Volkswagen Polo R, like all cars competing in WRC today, is a four-wheel drive equipped with 1.6 L direct injection turbo engine. The power output is limited to around 300 bhp (225 kW).
