When JFK was president, Lyndon B. Johnson was the Vice President.
Johnson was the 36th President of the United States (1963-1969), a position he has gained after his service as the 37th Vice President.
After JFK’s assassination, he completed Kennedy’s term and was elected President in his own right in the 1964 election, winning in front of Barry Goldwater.
He is one of four people who served in both offices of the executive branch as well as both houses of Congress.
During Johnson’s presidency, assisted in a part by a growing economy, the War on Poverty helped millions of Americans rise above the poverty line.
Civil rights bills signed by Johnson banned racial discrimination in public facilities, interstate commerce, the workplace, and housing.
The voting rights act guaranteed full voting rights for citizens of all races.
Johnson owned a radio and TV station plus a 1500 acre ranch in Texas.
