One of the American Founding Fathers and the principal author of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson was the 3rd President of the United States (1801-1809).
He believed in democracy and embraced the principles of republicanism and the rights of the individual with worldwide influence.
He served in the Continental Congress representing Virginia at the beginning of the American Revolution and then moved to Governor of Virginia as wartime.
In 1785 he was the first United States Secretary of State serving under President George Washington.
While he was president he doubled the size of the United States which is why he got elected for his second term.
As a person, Jefferson was interested in science, invention, architecture, religion, and philosophy. He even designed several notable buildings among his home Monticello.
Thomas Jefferson knew several foreign languages and although he wasn’t a good orator, he was a great writer.
He owned 5000 acres of Virginia farmland plus dozens of slaves which is why his net worth is estimated at $212 million.
