Born as Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, became Michael Caine after he took the name from he movie The Caine Mutiny (1954).
He was a drop-out, at age of 15 he left school. After a few series of working-class jobs he took, Caine join the British Army and served in Korea during the Korean War.
To become a new star in cinematography he needed beside his talent, a new name. So, on the advice of his agent he became the Michael Caine we all know and love today.
His success was instant; he managed to take roles in more than 100 television productions in England.
But what made him really famous was the role in “The Long and the Short and the Tall” production. After followed Zulu (1964) – a battle between British soldiers and Zulu warriors the historical 19th-century battle in South Africa. That particular film brought Michael to international attention.
