3. Schuberth GmbH (Estimated Value: $72.7 billion)
Speed, engine performance, and technologies are not the only things developed year by year in Formula 1. Safety is also a major issue. Unfortunately, we had to learn that lesson in the hardest way. Motorsport has lost several talented drivers due to tragic accidents, from the legendary Ayrton Senna, to the new member of the F1 paddock, Jules Bianchi.
Since this sport is about pushing yourself and your car to the limit in terms of speed and endurance, accidents are inevitable. We cannot stop them from happening. But what we can do is minimizing the risks of fatal injuries.
And that is exactly what Formula 1 has been improving. If you look back at the 1950s races, you can see how unsafe the driver’s helmet was compared to today. It is no longer a simple helmet, but a protective headgear.
Schuberth is the protective equipment supplier for several Formula 1 drivers, such as Fernando Alonso and Nico Hulkenberg. Since ninety years ago, this company has been producing safety helmets for racers and industrial workers. About three hundred employees work at Schuberth’s base in Madgdeburg, Germany.
