Born in Bronx, Larry Ellison enrolled the University of Illinois in 1962, and was named Science Student of the Year. He dropped out of college in his second year, after his adoptive mother died. He re-enrolled a year after at the University of Chicago, but he decided to quit as well.
Later on, he began working as a programmer for Amdahl Corporation, and in 1977 he founded Software Development Labs, along with two of his co-workers. The company developed a system for commercial applications named Oracle.
Even if he had a hard life, Ellison somehow managed to be the third richest man in America, and the fifth in the world. Being a sailing lover, he was the former owner of the world’s sixth largest yacht, the $200 million Rising Sun.
