6. Slim Helu (Estimated family net worth: $52 billion)
Carlos Slim Helu is the richest man in Mexico, and is ranked fourth in Forbes’s billionaire list this year. Carlos alone has around $47.8 billion of estimated net worth. And together with his entire family members, the Slim Helu has bagged $52 billion of estimated net worth.
That number was actually half bigger last year. But the family’s mobile phone operator business, America Movil, was hit hard by some factors. The biggest factors are some of the changes in Mexican telecoms regulations and economic decline in South America.
Regardless, the Slim Helu family is still one of the richest. Besides the telecoms company, Carlos also owns the biggest stake of New York Times shares: 17%. And that is not all, he also bought majority stakes of other big companies in South America, such as Grupo Carso and Grupo Financiero Inbursa.
Carlos is not just the richest man in Mexico, but also one of the most powerful in the world. Last year, Forbes crowned him as the world’s 15th most powerful people.
