Born in 1984, the American figure skater John Garvin Weir-Voronov has not technically won an Olympic medal, but he’s still a very popular personality in figure skating.
He is the 2008 World bronze medalist, a 2-time Grand Prix Final bronze medalist, the 2001 World Junior Champion and a 3-time U.S. National Champion (2004-2006).
After watching Oksana Baiul win the gold medal at the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, Weir was inspired to become a figure skater and first learned on roller skates before taking formal lessons.
The American figure skater came out as gay in 2011 and, during the 2014 Sochi Olympics, his extravagant outfits caused quite a stir.
