Alternate captain for the Colorado Avalanche, Jarome Iginla was drafted in 1995, playing for the Calgary Flames at the very beginning of his career. Gradually, he became one of the richest hockey players in the world.
Iginla signed a $4.9 million deal with the Flames in 1999, and pledged to donate $2,000 to a children’s charity every time he scored a goal during his time with the team. His deal with the Flames then increased to $13 million in 2002, and he scored his biggest contract in 2014 with the Avalanche, totalling $16 million and lasting for three years.
