Mario Lemieux began his professional career with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1984 and represented Canada internationally from Junior level to the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Unusually, Lemieux has retired twice. He came out of retirement initially in 2000 and returned to the NHL to continue playing for the Penguins. His deal was worth half a million dollars, and he would continue to play until 2006, when he retired again.
