13. Thomas Vanek – net worth $48.2 million
Another of the richest hockey players in the world is Minnesota Wild player Thomas Vanek, who was first drafted in 2003 and played for the Montreal Canadiens, New York Islanders, and the Buffalo Sabres.
Austrian-born Vanek’s latest contract with the Wild gave him $5.5 million in 2014, $6.5 million in 2015, and $7.5 million in 2016. Before this, however, he was offered a $50 million contract with the Islanders but turned it down, preferring to move to his preferred team for less. Vanek is clearly a man who can afford to be principled.
