7. Joe Thornton – net worth $60 million
Selected first overall by the Boston Bruins in the 1997 draft, Joe Thornton played for them for seven seasons, captaining for three.
After the shut down of the NHL over pay in 2005, Thornton secured a further three-year deal with the Bruins for $20 million. A $21.6 million deal then kept him with the San Jose Sharks until 2011. Thornton has also represented Canada internationally, winning gold with his team in 2010 and 2004.
