Undeniably one of the most iconic models of both her own generation and now, Naomi Campbell began her modelling career in a Bob Marley music video when she was 10.
Campbell was French Vogue‘s first black cover girl and part of the the “Trinity”, a trio of in-demand supermodels which also included Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista. She was also one of the first ‘supermodels’, a term that wasn’t really used until the 90s.
Campbell officially retired from the catwalk in 1999, but makes the occasional appearance for designers she considers to be close friends and always causes a stir in the process. She is vocal about her position as one of few high profile black models in the industry and regularly draws attention to racial prejudice within the fashion industry.
