Racing has been a family business for three generations. Ralph Dale Earnhardt Jr., known professionally as DE2, is the son of NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Sr. and the grandson of both NASCAR driver Ralph Earnhardt and stock car fabricator Robert Gee.
He began his career at the age of 17, competing in the Street Stock division at Concord, North Carolina’s Motorsport Park.
During 2003-2009, he was voted NASCAR’s ‘Most Popular Driver’.
DE2 drives the famous #88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet Impala SS for Hendricks Sports and car #5 in the Nationwide Series races for JR Motorsports. In 1998, he won his first Nationwide Series race at the Coca-Cola 300.
The driver was featured in the 2003 video ‘Playboy: Celebrity Photographers’ where he photographed The Dahm Triplets. Also, he appeared in the 2006 film ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby’.
And his cars are no less famous. The #88 car appeared in the 2011 film ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ as Roadbuster of the Wreckers, while the No. 8 car appeared in ‘Herbie: Fully Loaded’ in the final race where Herbie overtook him.
