2. Los Angeles Lakers – $2.7 billion
Based in Los Angeles, California, the LA Lakers is definitely the Hollywood of NBA. However, the team’s glamor does not come with nothing. The Lakers has won sixteen championships. No other team is even close to that achievement.
Today, the Lakers has $2.7 billion of team value. That is just slightly higher than the previous season. Surprisingly, the team’s sport value is only $38 million. The billions of dollars mostly come from the market ($1.6 billion).
Jerry Buss Family Trusts bought the Lakers for $20 million in 1979. Later on in 1998, he shared the ownership with Philip Anschutz for $268 million. That is another smart investment.
However, the team’s last two seasons did not support that idea. Two years ago, Lakers was the richest NBA team. After that, it has been Lakers’ worst franchise, especially after Kobe Bryant’s retirement. Nevertheless, there was a total of $304 million revenue and $133.4 million of operating income generated last season.
