The NHL player started his career with the Laval Voisins of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and he broke league records: in the 1983–84 QMJHL season, Lemieux broke the league record for points in a season with 282 (133 goals, 149 assists) in 70 games.
In 1993, Mario Lemieux announced that he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Five years later, the player bought the Penguins and their top minor league affiliate, the American Hockey League’s (AHL) Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
