Ivan Glasenberg is the CEO of the world’s largest commodity trading and mining companies, Glencore Xstrata.
Ivan Glasenberg , joined Glencore in 1984 working in the coal department. Between 1989 and 1990 he managed the Glencore’s Beijing and Hong Kong’s offices and in 1991 he became the head of the company’s coal department. In 2002 he became the CEO of Glencore.
In his youth, Ivan Glasenberg was also a friend of Mick Davis, the future CEO of Xstrada. Later, Xstrada and Glasenberg’s Glencore will create one of the largest mining company mergers in history creating a US$88 billion company.
Glasenberg earned a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is a former South African race-walking champion and also represented Israel in the sport.
