Sawiris made his fortune in the communications industry, and in 2013 he became the largest shareholder in VimpelCom, a telecom company. He is still looking to invest through Orascom TMT Investments, the company that his brother runs.
Sawiris founded the Free Egyptians Party and wanted the removal of the country’s new president. He accused the government of harassing his younger brother.
