This Austrian lawyer and businessman is the chairman of BW Group.
In 1967, he married Anna Pao Sohmen, the daughter of tycoon Yue-Kong Pao, who established the Worldwide Shipping Company in 1955.
As Yue-Kong Pao was getting old, Sohmen was appointed chairman of the Worldwide Shipping Group in 1986 and Pao’s ownership was passed to his daughter in 1989.
He settled in Hong Kong more than 30 years ago supports a graduate scholarship program for Chinese lawyers studying at SMU’s Dedman School of Law.
His son Andreas Sohmen-Pao is chief executive of BW Maritime and BW Gas.
